Realms: Nentir Vale

~ Realms: Nentir Vale ~

The Lords of Gardmore have a great website detailing the Vale and its locations. The following descriptions of Fallcrest, Winterhaven, and Harkenhold are from this site.

Fallcrest ~ Capital of the Vales ~

Population: 1,350; another 900 farmers live within a few miles.
Government: Faren Markelhay is Lord Warden and appoints a town council
Fallcrest Guards: sixty warriors
Militia: 350 called as needed
Maps: 3D Map / From above

A small town built from the ruins of a larger city, Fallcrest is the crossroads of the Nentir Vale. Here travelers and traders using the old King’s Road that runs north and south, the dwarven Trade Road from the east, and the river all meet.

Fallcrest imports finished goods from the larger cities downriver and ironwork from the dwarf town of Hammerfast, and exports timber, leather, fruit, and grain. It also trades with the nearby town of Winterhaven.

Winterhaven

Population: 977
Government: Ernest Padraig, the Lord of Winterhaven
Winterhaven Regulars: ten warriors
Militia: 125 called as needed
Maps: 3D Map

The rutted King’s Road leads to the foot of a broad hill that holds the walled village of Winterhaven. The village is nestled in the southern foothills of the Cairngorm Peaks.

Small thatched homes stand around Winterhaven, each fronting a small piece of farmland or pasture. Beyond the farms to the west and south lie dark woods, and to the north, tall mountain peaks.
Most residents of Winterhaven have never traveled beyond the village vale. Wagons occasionally head east down old King’s Road from Winterhaven to find trade with the next village, which lies five days away.

Baronry of Harkenhold

Population: 2000 scattered throughout the valley
Government: Jonn Stockmer Baron of Harkenwold
Harkenhold Regulars: 30 warriors
Militia: 150 called as needed
Maps: 3D Map

Half a dozen small villages lie along the upper vales of the White River. Together, they make up the Barony of Harkenwold—a tiny realm just over 50 miles long and roughly 20 miles wide located between arms of the Harken Forest.

The people of Harkenwold are farmers, woodcutters, shepherds, and woodworkers; little trade comes up or down the old King’s Road.

Most of the citizens are humans (50%), halflings (25%), and dwarves (20%), with a smattering of other folk (5%).

Kalton Manor (The Ghosts of Mistmore)

Back in the days when Nerath was settling the Nentir Vale, minor lords in search of land to call their own established manors and holds throughout the area. Kalton Manor was one of these, a small keep raised by Viscount Arrol Kalton about two hundred years ago. The manor was built and the town of Mistmore grew in its shadow, 10 miles to the west along the banks of the Fens. Calamity struck when the household was killed on the night of an engagement party of one of Arrol's three daughters. None survived the events of the night and the manor has since fallen into ruins.
